Astro Byond Software Update Error
Hi I'm new to astro service, so that I'm not sure are this common: I've subscribe astro super pack 3 HD service, today just get the installation done, my set up is, pvr decoder link to full hd tv with their hdmi cable, pvr decoder digital out link to Yamaha av receiver with optical cable. After done, decoder setting to switch to (digital only), my receiver showing dolby digital with 6 channel of audio come in, the dolby digital audio is much better in quality and dynamic range, however most of the hd channel produce audio noise, as tried the discovery, sports, F1, astro on demand, the noise sound is low to medium depend on channel, it was very disturbing, I would like to ask is there anybody having the same problem? Do they have any solution?
I've tried with another digital optical cable, tried another coaxial cable, (I have complete cable of all these mess.) both having same problem. (Please take note all cables work well on ps3 sending digital sound to receiver, crystal clear.) As mention not all hd channel's dolby sound have problem, by now I'm watching worldcup live hd Belgium vs Russia, the sound is good, no noise, clear and loud. While when I change setting to stereo output, the sound is normal, no problem come up, but as u should know the stereo sound of astro is low and lack of dynamic range. I've called to astro technical part, a young Malay girl answering me, but god help her she's no idea on how digital sound work. She said if stereo output no problem, then decoder or signal receive no problem, ask me stick to stereo output.
Mentioned normally people send audio and video to tv, then from tv send stereo sound to av receiver. I have give up to her after so many time explained. So hope u guys can share some user experience, thank you very much!! HDMI out From PVR to HDMI IN Yamaha 675. Everything is ok and to astro standards!
Then I try using coaxial from astro to coaxial AV In,the sound from here is noisy/scrambled and seem to hv been disabled. When HDMI removed Coaxial is ok. I did not bother to ask abt this just concluded it could be my PVR or astro who are good at dirty tactics.Maybe you shld try the standard way hdmi out from astro to AVR,then out to Tv In.
I suspect astro has disabled dual link, once HDMI is used. I do have another box and I have two connections one by HDMI and one by Coaxial both work perfect This post has been edited by smileguy: Jun 23 2014, 06:07 AM. Hi pal thanks for your info, but too bad my avr no hdmi input, but this give me an idea to try another way, which is use component cable to send video signal, optical cable do the audio part. I check if component cable can go through 1080i signal.
Update after 10 minutes, try out component cable output, the decoder set automatically send out sd signal to tv, and no way to choose hd signal. And then the dolby sound remain same with noise, tried few hd channel. Think that could be two reason, 1st is decoder not sending perfect dolby signal; 2nd is either the dish not align perfectly. I checked the signal strength in setting both reach 174. But is this enuf for receiving hd content and dolby signal?
That's a question. Update again. Although no one answering me.haha. I suspect the sample rate of my avr is setting wrong, it was receiving 48khz of those hd channel, I try to change it to 44.1khz, after go through the whole user manual of my avr yamaha rxv361, found that no way to change the sample rate, signal coming in at what rate then avr output what rate. As reading in my avr signal info: Format, dolby d Sample, 48khz Ch, 3/2/0.1 Bit rate, 384kbps After all these few days of studying, here's some fact: World Cup live hd have clear sound when match on going, then half time the astro guy come out talking, the sound have noise, and then second half begin, sound perfect. After sign up for the hi end service, I expect to get everything they promise, it's a great pain experience. Hope any tech guy will try to help me sort this out.

I suspect astro provides 5.1 only via HDMI,set your audio to stereo and see hw is it.HDMI port is activated only if u take HD services,so I maybe be wrong but I feel its yr connection,u may hv to switch to stereo, note its just my opinion. In my case I cannot get sound via Coaxial if my HDMI is active, which should not happen( In my AVR when I go to settings of say HDMI 1(astro),I can select Audio In,when HDMI is selected I get super 5.1,when i set to AV 1 (coaxial astro) only scrambled sound. This post has been edited by smileguy: Jun 24 2014, 02:15 PM. Hi pal, as mention in post 1, set to stereo is no problem, but sound is soft, especially those HD channel meant to output dolby surround, when down grade to stereo 2 channel then the dialogue all become soft.
My service is HD service with record function, HDMI send signal to TV, TV got stereo sound and 1080i visual, that's a no problem. As mention in astro user manual, we can enjoy dolby encoded surround sound from all the HD channel, we can either get this by 2 way: a) HDMI link to AV receiver, then AV receiver send video signal to HDTV via another HDMI cable, in the mean time AV receiver decoding dolby signal so we can enjoy 5.1 surround sound.
B) HDMI link to HDTV, so TV got 1080i visual and stereo sound. Optical cable or Coaxial cable link to AVR (AV receiver), so AVR output dolby surround sound. I dun think is my connection fault bcos have did this many years on my PS3 set up. All the digital sound send through optical cable to AVR produce crystal clear and high dynamic range surround sound. In your case I'm not sure which top box you are using, bcos my latest PVR top box is work either coaxial or optical when hdmi working. The coaxial sound is way little soft, optical work much better.
Only that Gotcha is the sound noise on most the HD channel. Hi pal, as mention in post 1, set to stereo is no problem, but sound is soft, especially those HD channel meant to output dolby surround, when down grade to stereo 2 channel then the dialogue all become soft.

So hope u guys can share some user experience, thank you very much!! Just receive mail from astro side, ask me to use hdmi at both side. My avr don't have hdmi input, well if their optical output won't work then why the hell they have it on their top box?
And this didn't make sense bcos ps3 send out uncompressed PCM signal or dts signal around 1.5mbs through the optical with no problem. They just wanna get away from this mess, and nvr think about their source have bugs.
If I go bought a new hdmi avr then the problem still exist then how? Who gonna pay for the loss? Bro so u output all signal to your avr through hdmi? Hi fubar thks for your link, I have read it before for few times, so that it mention both HDMI and coaxial or optical is all work for Digital Sound. Pls understanding my issue is: the digital sound have noise at most the HD channel. So that is looking for someone have that knowledge to solve the issue. For the HD channel is sending out 5.1 or stereo, I'm pretty sure when switch to digital only, all the HD channel sending 5.1 signal, SD channel sending 2.0 stereo signal.
My AVR front panel showing how many channel of sound signal from the source. So that Astro is simulated all HD programme's audio to 5.1 channel then send to us by satellite. This is not a strange technology. My low end AVR is simulated any stereo 2.0 audio to 5.1 channel when ever I like, just a click away.
Since it was just simulated, so the surround speaker not working as clear as the real 5.1 channel sound. Here I found a firmware to fix the cracked sound of Yamaha RX-V361 below is from a AV forums: Instructions: 1) Burn.wav (firmware file) to a CD as an audio CD. 2)Unplug the amplifier.
3)Hold down on/off button and SpeakersA/B/OFF button and plug the amp back in. 4) The screen will read SPDIF Upgrade 5) Connect your CD/DVD player to the amp via optical or component and hit play. 6) The amp will display 'Adress: 0000000' while it writes the singal to its memory. After which you will be given a percentage completed indicator as the firmware applies.
Ipad Software Update Error
It will then say 'Upgrade OK'. Should take about 3-4 minutes in total. I found out how to upgrade the firmware using a PS3. You must change the settings of both the sound and music of the PS3.
The sound setting that has to be selected is the lowest PCM setting and the music setting must be set to the other option from default. Its 48/62/176 hz or something like that. (You need to change the sound settings so that only AAC, 44.1 and 48 are selected.) Anyways with that changed once you play the wav file from the disc the firmware will upgrade and all crackling is gone!!! Of course, is not a problem. For this is a forum as if in someone's a problem with the play of the new firmware should occur, then you could perhaps also help: Check the Sofwareversion: 1.Turn off the device.
2.Press the 'STRAIGHT' button and the 'AUDIO SELECT' button at the same time on the device. 3.Hold down both buttons and turn the device on (keys can be released after). 4.Select the 'PROGRAM' button on the unit from the menu.
The display shows the version is now visible If the display shows 'MO 63' are the up-date is ok., if you turn the unit off and on again, the unit returns to the normal mode. Reset the receiver: 4.Select with the 'PROGRAM' button on the unit from the menu number 8 'PRESET INHI' to. 5.Change those records with 'SCENE 1' and 'SCENE 2' buttons on your device to the 'PRESET RSRV'. 6.Switch off device.

7.Switch the power on again. The unit is now reset to the factory defaults. This post has been edited by cyclop20: Jun 27 2014, 03:50 PM. Here is the end, for a complete record of this mess, we need an end. I try update my avr at home, I got only one ps3, but it doesn't trigger the update progress.
I thought it was my cd burn with windows media player maybe not compatible, I straight away drive back office burn another two firmware cd with lg burning and Nero burning, pity me don't have PC at home. But it not work either. I took out my Sony DVD player, it's lens have dirty due to long time not operated, so I dismantle it and clean it, but guess what I miss align the tray and it won't going in. So the DVD set is certified dead. Frustrating doing all these from 7-12.
The next day I decide to send my avr to yamaha service centre located at Kelana jaya, I bring along the cd, the technician have me accompany to get every detail, actually he don't even know this issue exist, however we does make it the update running, the avr panel show update complete, we check the firmware version is right,(M060). Later he check back his service acknowledge from japan, proof that such problem exist, for several model of yamaha avr, due to dolby decoder chip faulty, some minor DVD or bluray won't work together on the dts or dolby codec, but luckily it can be fix by firmware update. I straight away go home, set all up, the noise (cracked sound) of astro hd channel goes away, hola, finally I can enjoy all hd channel in dolby 5.1. Thank you all.
